In the Heaven's Feel narrative, Kirei became the vessel of the corrupted Grail after the Fourth Holy Grail War, when the Grail's contents were implanted into him by Angra Mainyu. He does not embrace the darkness as a new choice; rather, his pursuit of existential meaning through suffering and evil has long been intertwined with the Grail's corruption. This path leads him into a direct conflict with Shirou Emiya at the climax of the war. His death is not merely physical but represents the resolution of his lifelong philosophical struggle regarding good, evil, and existence.

In Their Own Story

The rain fell cold on the shattered pavement beneath Fuyuki City, masking the scent of blood with the smell of ozone. Kirei stood amidst the debris, his cape heavy with water and mud from the corrupted Grail. He looked at the boy before him, not with hatred, but with a strange clarity he had never possessed in life. There was no sermon left to preach, only the final truth of what it meant to be human. As the blade approached, Kirei smiled, finally feeling the weight of his own end.

Reader's Guide

The event unfolds during the climax of the Heaven's Feel route after the Grail has been corrupted by Angra Mainyu. Kirei, having absorbed some of the mud, becomes a vessel for this evil force while retaining enough will to confront Shirou Emiya directly. Shirou projects weapons from his Unlimited Blade Works to fight back against Kirei's enhanced magical energy and physical prowess. The battle takes place in the underground ruins where the Grail resides, surrounded by the remnants of the war. Ultimately, Shirou manages to pierce through Kirei's defenses with a projected blade, ending the priest's life. This act allows the remaining heroes to fully destroy the corrupted Grail and conclude the Fifth Grail War without further interference from the Church.
